Verdict : WebHost4Life is garbage. Do not even think of bringing an ASP.NET site to this company.

The limits imposed make this webhost NOT DNN Freindly, though they advertise they are a DNN host.

Limits include: 50MB Resource allocation and your app pool will recycle (this is insane, your application will get recompiled every time someone visits, causing load time upto 1-2 minutes).

Customer Service seems to be responsive, but are not knowledgable at all.

They don't have IIS setup properly, which causes horrible response times.

They have shared servers for database and web.

They put about 100+ websites per server and do not manage them properly.

They force recycle application pools every day at 11:30PM EST. This is prime time for the rest of america for my website.

I have alot more bad things to say, but it will get to long.

The GOOD: The ONLY thing, and I mean ONLY thing, I like about webhost4life is thier control panel. I do not care for HSphere which is why I went to webhost4life, but I'd rather deal with the lack of features in HSphere than a horrible webhost.

This company needs to go out of buisness so others aren't stuck in the predicament I am in.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT host your site with this company.

Verdict : I've hosted my site www.avalonbeadstore.com with Webhost4life for 5 months now and have had numerous occasions of long term downtime, especially during peak hours of the day when our business is booming. We've lost plenty of money due to this repeated downtime and after several attempts with their support to iron out the problem (which they said EVERY time was due to someone abusing server resources) we are at our wits end. It's a lot of work to research new hosting companies, select one with everything you need, and move your site, but at this point we are willing to do the work. After emailing the CEO very cordially but sternly about this problem, we have received no response but from support saying "Oh, the site is fine. It's up and running." WELL WHAT ABOUT THE HOURS OF DOWNTIME EVERY OTHER DAY?!! The point is these people really don't care whether your site is up or not. There's only so many "No response from server" errors you can get before you have to make a decision to change hosts. We're not looking forward to this.

Bottom line... Don't bother with Webhost4life. It's NOT a lifelong relationship.

Verdict : I can't say that this is the worst host out there, simply because I haven't tried all of them. What I CAN say is that I have never dealt with any company even half as bad as this one. We hosted several critical websites with them for a period of about 2 months in early 2007. In that period, they completely crashed and erased all our sites twice. On both occasions, there was no response from customer support for several days. In desperation, we wrote to their CEO because they prominently display his email and encourage customers to write directly to him. We never got a response from him either. Here are the three emails we sent him:

We are in utter disbelief and we have no hope. After hours and hours, the server is still not up.

Hello,

Hope you're doing well. We opened an account with you about a month ago and have been deluged with problems ever since:

1. Everything on your service is an add-on that requires extra money. MS SQL is there but reporting services cost $60 a year. Once you pay for Reporting Services, they are there but you need to pay $10 for an extra user ID so that we don't have to give our master account credentials to our Reporting Services users. Multiple domains are there, but getting a separate folder for each domain costs $15/yr. We started with a $9.95/month plan but have already paid about $240 for the year (twice what we bargained for) and yet don't have what we need. All this sounds like nightmarish fiction, but it's all true. If we had known before signing up that we would be subjected to this, we would have done better.

2. Your control panel is tedious and prone to crashing - it frequently gives the "session expired" error within one minute of logging in. We are used to HELM and that thing is fast, reliable, and super-good-looking.

3. Your service is extremely slow. We have mirror sites on another host and everything runs 10 times faster there. Only reason we came to you is that our other host does not yet support MS SQL 2005 (they have only 2000).

4. Your support personnel respond in poor written English, sometimes impossible to understand what they mean.

I could go on, but this is enough for a start. I hope you have some good answers. Thank you.

We cancelled the service within 45 days, but they only refunded $150 out of the $240 or so they had charged for a full year. Their excuse was that some of the add-on charges were non-refundable. Readers can make their own conclusions based on these facts, and yet I feel compelled to add: Please don't ever sign up with this company. If you are already a customer, please find another host before you suffer beyond grief.

Verdict : I've used these guys since one of my first development attempts in ASP, in 1999. I've run about ten different sites through them, most of them in development and preproduction. Over this time I have seen them get progressively worse in terms of their support of these sites and the performance. Finally last year I pulled some stats and I found that the server for one of my sites was dropping every third packet... no wonder the pages were hardly ever loading. Sure, they answer their support questions fast - but half the time it is complete and utter garbage. Everything is fine if you agree with them, but the minute you start questioning something they just keep repeating the same thing again and again... its like they argue with you by illogical conclusions.

Example: I requested a website restore for my forums as we had a problem with an upgrade of IPB, they kept asking for my credit card through their unsecure help area, I didn't want to and they didn't reply to any of my responses in the next 24 hours. Finally in desperation I restored the entire thing myself, and they had the cheek to charge me for the restoration (which never occured) without my permission. So I did a chargeback :)

If you are learning ASP and want somewhere to play around, then these guys give you that opportunity. But do NOT host anything here that you don't giving you awful performance. Also realise that most of what they tell you and have on their site is complete and utter rubbish, such as their uptime guarantee, their money back guarantee, and pretty much anything else you see.

Overall, despite the fact I have used these guys for eight years, I would not recommend them to anyone at all. Even if you have to pay a few more dollars, its nothing compared to the hidden costs you get charged.

Verdict : Webhost4life is very deceptive. They seem to have a great price, but once you become a customer you soon realize that you are being nickel and dimed to death. Things that seem free and unlimited on the main page, you actually must pay for.

It seems like nothing is actually up and running on your account until you try to use it and submit a ticket, then it suddenly works and they claim nothing was wrong.

The customer support is actually very good no complaints there.

The thing that killed me was upon my 1 year renewal. They actually wanted to charge me a renewal fee of $10. That was it I was tired of paying extra for everything. There was no way I was paying a renewal fee. If anything they should be giving me a $10 discount for continuing my service.

They aren't bad, but there are far better hosts out there. Webhost4life is very deceptive. Beware of this one.

Verdict : I have hosted numerous ASP.net websites here, with multiple SQL databases, it is a powerful user interface to manage your website and sql databases, it is cheap and reliable. The email service is also great and webmail interface is user friendly, anti-spam is pretty effective. No problems with these guys, they are great and I dont work for them! I am on another continent!
