Verdict : I started with Startlogic ~ 6 months ago with a rental website that has only a few rental information. In more than 60% of the time, it would take 30-60 seconds to get on to my web or browse different pages. I complained more than 30 times and they could never fully resolve the problem. Stay away from this compnay!

Verdict : I signed up for Webhosting for a year with the company and got a free domain name.

The control panel was awful and technical support inexistant, no one answered the phone. No one cares, except to take your money.

I paid through Paypal. I cancelled within 2 hours, and have not seen my refund. i emailed them several time, no refund...

They said they would only refund through credit card even though I paid through Paypal, and want my credit card info. It turns out I saw some complaints about them taking money from peoples credit cards from services they did not buy or had expired long ago.

So now I am out of my money, and cannot use my domain name because I will not deal with that scam company again.

Please contact me if you know what steps to take to help myself in this situation. I need to finally get a refund and more than anything else, I need my domain name which they basically have taken away from me.

Thank you in advance.

Verdict : I have been with Startlogic for my family website and Gallery php based photo sharing application for about 3 years. Overall it has been neither a good nor bad experience. It's an entry level hosting service and thats roughly what you get. If you are a total novice, expect to spend lots of hours/days getting a good basic site set up.

I am on a shared server hosting plan (cheap). Lately there has been a lot more latency and slow service periods than in the past. I wouldn't mind so much if the customer service would at least acknowledge that; 1. There is a problem, or 2. This is what you get. Since this is not a business website I don't track uptime and downtime, but you can expect an outage every other month.

I use the Gallery V3 application to manage my extensive photo galleries. Since the Vdeck "upgrade" in late 2007 I have had very slow response times. On a perfect high speed connection, I expect snappy performance with little wait time. Well, you will never get it on a Start Logic server. It's really a bummer and makes you feel like you are on a non-commercial website. I paid the Gallery developers to tweak my php settings and the Gallery and it was determined, thats all Im going to get unless I switch hosts.

One last gripe, as some one else mentioned, the file manager in the new interface is a joke. The simplest job of just uploading a file and moving it to a particular directory is a multi-step process. Not Good.

My customer service experience has been to always get in touch with someone quickly. The bad thing is that they usually tell me the problem (slowdown, errors, compatability, etc.) is on my end. They have also helped to resolve problems occasionally, but that was mostly at the beginning of this web sites creaion years ago.

Overall, I don't think I would recommend use or disuse of Startlogic anymore. They are not too bad, but not too good.

Verdict : I signed up for Starlogic in September 2007. I intended on trying them out and possibly getting my money back (they advertise a 30 day money back guarantee), but to my delight I found that their web-biulder SITEDELUX was great for what I wanted so I stayed. About a month later
they claimed they were upgrading their services, which meant the editing functions on Sitedeluxe were unavailable a lot. And then they realized that their upgrades amde sitedelux less compatable with their new system so they are now fazing Sitedelux out. Now I have to call about at least twice a month to get them to reset my editor so I can make any changes through Sitedelux. I've asked 5 service reps if they are fazing out Sitedelux and only 1 has been honest with me and said 'yes'. The others were 'not aloud to talk about the matter'. Now I'm searching to another hosting company, but I'm dreading having to build my site from scratch again. It took me at least 100 hours before.

Verdict : Startlogic has really gone down hill the last 1 to 1 1/2 years. I have several sites with them and each goes down (usually more than one at a time) at least once a month. Other times their servers run PAINFULLY SLOW.

Verdict : Today starlogic is out of internet, it's main site is down, my site down too, no email, no fpt... during the morning, my site start to wake up... but it is a backup TREE MONTHS OLD, and I can do nothing as email, live chat or any other way to talk to them is just unavailable. Free phone is not an ption if you live in another continent, anyway, sure it is blocked!

In the time I am with them, the Live chat wait time had varied from 15 minutes the first few times (mid of 2007), to one hour and a half as the USUAL (not peak) wait time on 2008! Totally unusable, so the only way to talk to them was opening support tickets, that they quickly answerd, that's true.

Also, my site loads now about 3-5 times slower than it used to do, but well, given the price, web space and bandwith, it is something one could spect and I don't complain about it at all.

Verdict : I have to say the tech support are very nice and courteous at Startlogic. I had to cancel my account due to the fact their servers are blocked in china and my website is based on serving china customers. I had a similar issue before with another hosting company and they just changed the IP and it worked. Not sure why Startlogic can't do this but they just said they can't. Maybe it's not easy to do so. If the servers were not blocked I'd continue to try them out.

Verdict : Well, I thought I'd give Startlogic a try. But I had one problem after another. First the virtual file didnt work properly but they fixed it after one week. After fixing this issue, a serious problem occurred that my sites could not be viewed in China. I had this issue before with another hosting company and they fixed it by changing the IP. Startlogic said they did have a few customers from Asia with the similar problem, but they said there was nothing they could do and did not want to change the IP for just one customer. I need my site to be viewed in China and by the site not being able to be viewed due to the server settings, I had to throw in the towel and call it quits and cancel my plan at Startlogic. Also, their email control panel isn't that easy to use if you need to add multiple emails. Well, I give up on Startlogic, but I did give it a good try. One other complaint I would have is that sometimes you have to wait hours to get an online operator. I worry that in an emergency such as the site having problems you can't reach anyone.

Verdict : I have been with startlogic over 5 years.
They had a great basic system until october 2007.
Since they upgraded to VDEC3 things are going downward.

Before oct 2007, things were going smoothly with a very few problems. Though support was never easy to reach and rarely gave effective solutions. Many software that startlogic uses have bugs that affect stability.

Since Oct 2007, we had many downtimes due to VDEC3. VDEC3 has sever ergonimic and security issues. Passwords are sent in clear over the internet !!! Editing Web pages can be a headacke. Only one page at a time can be uploaded ! File manager which was a great tool in VDEC2 was reduced to the strict mininum in VDEC3. It looks like startlogic wants its customer to run away. In addition some tools like "SiteDelux" can/will change secutiry on files such a way that you web site will crash. Then don't talk about passwords being sent in clear over http instead of https ... a real laughing matter.

When I called support to report these issue they event didn't want to open a ticket. Only thing that I got was "our system is setup this way, there is no problem to report". I even talked to the supervisor. No way to get any help.

So Basically we will have to look for a new service provider.

Verdict : I had used Startlogic for a couple of years to host my website. They were cheap. The website authoring tool vdeck was primitive but it did work. Recently they switched to vdeck3. What a disaster! I could no longer edit my website either with the old or new vdeck consoles though both gave appearances of at least "being there". To make matters worse, they wanted to charge $9.98 per month for an upgraded editor - That was more that the charge for the website!

Startlogic makes it deliberately hard to switch from their website once you are there. No FAQ or "knowledge base" on migrating away from startlogic at all. Their "live tech support" is a joke! It takes 45 minutes to get a tech on the phone - who cannot address the issue! And they close out the requests without fixing anything!

I am amazed that there are a couple of websites with only glowing positive reviews of startlogic. One is Startlogic - the other must be a shill!

Stay away - You will get burned!

Verdict : I thought I am the one having problems with this Dodge web host. DON'T EVER TRUST the so call 30 days money back guarantee with them. This is trap!!!!!

I signed up with this host in the early Feb, tried for 3 days and want to close the account. The following is what actually happens to my account,

Try searching for ticket center to submit the request, 2 days, CAN’T FIND IT!
Email to ( support@startlogic-inc.com ), 3 days, no reply!
1) Live Chat, 3 hours 05 mins, in queue, give up!
2) Live Chat, 2 hours 45 mins, in queue, give up!
3) Live Chat, 2 hours 15 mins, in queue, give up!
4) Live Chat, 2 hours 53 mins, scheduled to close account on following day, promise to refund as advertised. 7 days after the request, still no refund,
5) Live Chat, 1 hour 27 mins, closed account, refund inquiry; Dodge replies! Receive NO refund. (still under 30 days money back period)

1) ~ 5) are Live Chat attempts. Their Live Chat are LONG waiting time, meant, rude and impatient. Frankly, they don’t even bother to process your requests. Just delay your requests by not to reply.

According to Hosting Review, http://www.hosting-review.com/?gclid=CPCh4pKGs5ECFRsFagodRiOdew

They scored up to 94%. ( NO.1 ); My existing web host ONLY scored 89%. (They are more willing to listen & help, fast response, 24/7 Live Chat waiting time is usually within 15 mins, ticket system replied within 12~24 hours)

It seems they are ONLY capable of processing FAST (within few hours) when activate your account (register) & closing it. The rest of requests, you will have to wait ages. I use PayPal as paying method and this is the service and I received. If one uses Credit Card to pay for this, he/she will probably going to have MORE trouble in billing (randomly charged). I had search many sites and it seems there are bundles of people having the similar complains. (I am also one of them)

Before signing up with this dodge host. Be sure to check their refund policy. You will noticed that, they don’t tell you too much of it (while others specify clearly). I am quite convenience they are trying to hide all these info from subscribers. Be Extreme careful with this host, stay away if possible.

Verdict : These people are as bad as I hope they get. Support if you can get a hold of them is incompetent. All they do (after you wait 40+minutes to get a hold of someone) is write up a ticket (which you could do yourself). Now, these tickets take days to address and usually the first response you'll get will just give you a canned answer so you will need to resubmit the request because some idiot did not spend time reading your first request.
They overwrite your data with older data randomly during the transition to a new server. Flip the DNS back and forth for no reason and then they will deny any of that happened. Do NOT go with these people because you will feel like punching them but you won't even be able to get a hold of them.

Verdict : So I just finished a phone call with StartLogic after spending 51 minutes waiting for them to answer. I called their billing dept because I had a question regarding a (partial) refund. Earlier this month I moved both of my domains. One of them I had to move to Livebooks because for you to have a Livebooks site, it has to be hosted by them. The other one is BlueHost (Love them! They pick up the phone the moment you call!) I was so frustrated with Startlogic that I decided to pay $150 more to just get away. Keep in mind that if you have a simple question to ask, you'll have to take a day off, because these people keep you on hold for so long you get so mad that you just give up. I work for a photographer whom I helped the other day move his two domains to a different host. I spent 120 minutes waiting for them to answer. Then I had to leave, so he spent additional 50 minutes. He gave up. Before migrating to another host, I had had 4 tickets open. So you open a ticket, they answer you (sometimes), but not necessarily solve your problem or answer your question, yet they close the ticket. You can then reopen the same ticket (in which case you shouldn't expect them to ever reply back), or you can submit a new ticket again. Basically you run circles like an idiot. So when you get to the point when you can't take it any more, take a day off, call them, turn your speaker phone on, and wait. Get The Godfather 1, 2 and 3, that's how long it'll take them to answer, and cancel your account. But wait, before you do so, read the contract, because they will charge you a $50 early cancellation fee!

Verdict : I was happy enough with them to start another site until they migrated to their new platform. They have lost all of my DB's, you now have to pay to install Gallery 2-for 'security reasons' and I cannot access or administer my old gallery. I have given them 3 weeks and numerous tickets; which they seem to close arbitrarily. Today their 'live' chat is a text message that I sent 4 hours ago and have yet to receive a response. I'm done and looking for a new host.

Verdict : We had a service contract for 2 years. After one year they cancelled our account without any explanation or reason. Initially we had a couple of test pages there and we didn't touch the account for months. And when we did come back, we could not login to VDECK.

Attempts to contact them initially to see what had happened came back in a week. Another few days to wait for another response. Finally gave up email support and called them directly. After couple of days of agony, it was then revealed that our account had been cancelled due to expiration (WHAT???) and our login name was given to someone who's site had the same first 7-8 chars. We were told to reregister the domain and account. That's BS. Tried our site and it's still there. We refused to reregister and have them reinitate the account since we don't want to pay for their mistake. We had a tough time convincing them that our domain is still up and we just could not login to VDECK. It took a long time until we could log back for maintenance. We were asked to supply the credit card statements and luckily we did have it (over 1 year old). If we didn't we would have to go through hurdles to get that.

Service is bad..they have live chat but that's not good either since you have to wait 2+ hrs for them to connect..and when they do you better be there to answer or you get disconnected within 5 mins. I've wasted hours because I took a break to do something else and come back to realize that I got cut off. The chat box initially tell you how many people were ahead of you and give an estimate that is 4x less than the real connect time. There is no live count to see if you were even getting closer to talking to anyone. Also their chat does not chime when connected so you wouldn't know even if you were at the computer.

In one instance, I almost got angry and smash the computer. I was in chat and notice that I needed a security question and security answer before they can help me (I don't recall the security details) It pointed me to their website, but I have no idea where in their site to change this. So here I was, in chat to ask them how to change the security question so I can use it to answer them for help..the rep told me that she could not do that. I told her that I just need them to point me to the website so I can change it myself. She then ask what the problem was again for 2-3 times after I explain it over and over. I repeated several times that I needed her to tell me or point me to the site so I can change the security question since I'm already logged in to Vdeck.

I don't know if I really trust this company with hosting my site. The service is really lacking. It was good a year ago when we can actually talk to the sales or technical support with ease. Nowadays, it's live chat and what a headache it is. They seem to want to get rid of me rather then resolving any of my issues.

Verdict : Bought a 24 month hosting from these on promotion. Service was bad. Site constantly slow. Emails sometimes just stop working without any notice - had to recreate all to resume. Some claimed features were also not available when requested (graphics libraries in particular). After 2 years of not wanting anything to do with them I found a large charge on my credit card for the next 2 years - no notifications of any sort - they even admitted themselves of their "technical glitches". Asked for refund - finally they have cancelled and refunded 50 dollars less. Contacted them again, but they were very unhelpful.

Verdict : I contacted STartlogic in September to transfer my domain name to them. I did not receive the support I needed to make this transfer. They charged my credit card at that time. In the month following I tried to get a hold of the person who first assisted me. I have called several times to try to get my money back. I contact Sales and get right through. They then transfer me to the refund department. I am put on hold. After 20 minutes, I give up. This has happened to me now 3 times. I want my money back.

Verdict : Worst host ever. The only good thing I can say about them is that they're cheap. But it's not worth it. Don't even take the chance.

We have experienced problems again and again since shortly after joining StartLogic in the spring of 2006. And for the past six months, it's been an unending nightmare. The whole site has been down, parts of the site have been down, parts have been corrupted beyond our ability to restore from backups. We were down for most of the month of June, and most of August. Start Logic blamed us, because they couldn't figure out what they had done. They finally figured out that yes, it really was on their end, and fixed it. No apologies for blaming us.

Our site store (osCommerce) has become so unreliable that traffic is virtually zero. And surprise - we're down again.
