Verdict : Listen to this nice story of how a datacenter like Managed.com can completely destroy your hosting business and the year's worth of work you put into it. Gather 'round...

Managed.com unplugged my server - without ever informing me; I found out the hard way - because of a spam complaint against one of my hosted customers. This was just a little after being with them for a month. When I found out my server wasn't working I contacted Managed immediately. I kept contacting them, and finally learned that they had simply unplugged my server - and why.

I emailed them (go ahead and try to call them) to please plug my server back in so I could have my server management find out where the spam was originating from and that I could then immediately terminate that account responsible.

Nothing happened. I sent emails repeatedly, being extremely careful to be 'nice', but also pressing the issue and the fact that I couldn't do business with my server being down so long.

ONE WEEK LATER, I received an email from them saying they would plug my server back in immediately if I agreed to the following terms: 1) Terminate the spamacious account, and; 2) Agree to a $10 'plug-in' fee.

I emailed back immediately that I woud comply fully with all their terms, that I hated spam and would not allow it on my server, that I would terminate the guilty account immediately, and that the $10 plug-in fee was completly acceptable.

Then ... nothing happened. Days went by. I continued to email Managed.com, begging them to plug my server back in because I was losing all my clients. Repeatedly I did this because I live on the East Coast of the USA and Managed is located on the West Coast of the USA. I simply couldn't plug my server back in myself; they had to do that. I was completely reliant upon them for a hosting comany me and my partner spend a year developing. I desperately needed someone at Managed.com to lift their hand, and with their thumb and pinky finger, plug my server back in.

I emailed them, beggin and pleading, promising, trying to get them to understand that nothing was being acomplished here except my losing all my customers.

TWO WEEKS from the time they unplugged my server, they finally plugged it back in. They even emailed me which account of mine was responsible for the spamming.

My server was unplugged for TWO ENTIRE WEEKS at managed.com because of a spam complaint against on of my customers.

How is this possible? What can they be thinking? Certainly this couldn't have happened. Yet it did.

After TWO WEEKS of having my server unplugged, go ahead and take a guess at how many customers I had left.

There are serious problems with Managed.com, and I don't understand how they can still be in business. They simply don't deserve to be. In the end, they took 2 months of my money and then UTTERLY destroyed my hosting company. I paid them 2 months of their fess to be my datacenter, and this was the result. I still have difficulty accepting that what happened could really have happened. It simply makes no sense to me that a datacenter would unplug a customer's server for TWO WEEKS !!!

This is one company to avoid at all costs. Personally, I think that anyone who gives Managed.com a good review has just been lucky ... so far.

Verdict : I have been with Managed for well over half a year, and have had 3 major problems with them. The first two were due to hacking - the first bringing my site down for almost 2 weeks and the second for 1 week. The most recent brought down several of my servers down for more then a week without any concern to Managed.com.

Their network is incredibly insecure and is vulnerable to the smallest attacks. Even worse then this is their support. They list a local telephone number (ie - long distance charges outside of San Jose,) which goes straight to a generic recorded voicemail. When we've actually been able to contact them, they once promised our company a free vacation to Las Vegas and compensation for our business loss (which is well over $5000USD just in lost clients, let alone our business loss from new sales during the weeks of downtime.) These were empty promises to try to get us to stay, and our servers were never fixed or our emails responded to. Eventually they told us that they unplugged our servers and didn't give us an explanation why since they could not figure out how to get our servers online. Once I was even hung up on after I introduced myself on the phone.

Needless to say, this is the worst experience that I have ever had in my 20+ years of business, and I very confidently rate all aspects of their company the lowest rating possible. There are many other companies with similar pricing to Managed.com's, and I highly recommend going 'anywhere' else. We have since moved all our servers to NetNation, where the prices are higher, though we are guaranteed reliable service and polite and capable support through any medium.

Good luck!

Verdict : Back in early 2003 my company (Ultimate Hosting Solutions) and I decided to use managed.com's servers to allow us to offer dedicated server globally. Since then we've had close to 100 problems on the servers and unexpected downtime on there behalf. Not once were we compensated for this downtime even though we compensated our clients. There servers are unstable, unreliable, and the support is literally the worst we've ever experienced. We've now opened our own datacenter in Austin, Texas and moved all of our servers hosted with them to our new datacenter.

Managed.com offers allot of bandwidth but will unplug your server if you go over 200GB of bandwidth in a month saying you're using to much even though they offer 1000GB of bandwidth per month.

My review is honest and 100% trustable just look at their forum and you'll see other people complaining about there services.

I gave them a 1 out of 5 for everything because there are humans working there, they have servers, the servers were up every now and then, and because the price is cheap but trust me steer clear of them.
