At 7AM on 4/11 they are still down even though they have a recording saying everything is fixed as of 5pm yesterday. Their own website is still unworkable as well as the 4 sites that I initiated with Hypermart.
It is interesting that all the DNS A records have IP addresses that lead to an error page of Bizland.com.
At first I thought the outage must be a result of some catastrophe like a fire in a wiring closet. But now this smells of a planned secret migration that has gone out of control. As the other writer pointed out
they merged with another company in 2003 and there was problems for months. Even then I didn't have 3 days of solid outage.
Today is Monday and my heaviest traffic day of the week. Customers are
going to be looking to make reservations at our Inn. Can we get our money back somehow? |

I started with VirtualAve in about 1997. That eventually merged with or spun off Hypermart. They have been running almost, but not quite, identically since about 1999.
All was reasonably fine until in about 2002 or so, when they both got bought by Endurance and "improved their systems". We completely lost all web and e-mail for several days. I don't know how long it would have been if I hadn't of pushed through to them and PROVED (they didn't believe me) my site wasn't working. It was a nightmare. Over several days I eventually had to help walk them through to getting it fixed, and I am a BEGINNER, only knowing about hosting bits I had pieced together during the week from hell trying to figure it out. Since then, had several small problems with Hypermart and VirtualAve. Today is now the SECOND DAY OF ABSOLUTELY NO SERVICE (April 9, 2005) and their tech support line (which by the way, is nearly imposssible to find out what it is because they have so cleverly hidden) line has a recording saying they are down and working on it. They are COMPLETELY down, even their own sites don't work. I'm scrambling around for a new host.
THE VERDICT: Folks, something went horribly wrong when HyperMart/VirtualAve got bought, and it keeps getting worse. ie: I used to be able to have my URL with caps (ie: www.MyDomain.com), but they changed it so caps won't work. Has to be www.mydomain.com. That really sucks after spending tens of thousands of dollars advertising it as www.MyDomain.com style.
They have in the last two years gone to great pains to make it impossible to find their phone numbers, address, etc. Why would any reputable company go 'underground' like this?
Leave, run, get out! This latest massive outage is bound to take a troubled company and just make it far worse - my guess is they'll get hit so hard with customers leaving that they'll be out of business in a few months. |

Warning - Stear clear of Hypermart. If you are now hosted with Hypermart, I would recommend you move elsewhere now.
Hypermart.com has been owned by Go2Net for years, a fine company, owners also of SiliconInvestor.com. Go2Net has sold its web sites.
In August 2003 Hypermart was purchased by Endurance International. These folks have attempted to port all of Hypermart to another incompatible platform. They do not have the competence to do this task.
Since August, these people have repeatedly crashed my website, lost data, and locked up there servers, but the real problem is email.
They have suspended my email for over six days without response.
On another occasion, for over a week they have forward my all my email to another person without my knowledge. This was learned discovered by me only by that person inquiring as to why he was receiving my mail.
These people have secreted their identity and phone contact numbers. They also run something called "yourhostingaccount.com" I suggest you steer clear of that also.
