I signed up with DewaHost on January 31, 2005. My previous host (ViaVerio) had excellent phone support which I had to utilize on only a handful of occassions over the three years I was with them. Lured to DewaHost because of their pricing, control panels and lack of negative reviews on the internet(s), I quickly learned how valuable live telephone support is. If your server goes down you have to submit a support ticket through the DewaHost website. Then you have to sit back and wait for a response (make damned sure you use an e-mail account that's not on the server, 'cause if it's down you'll won't get a reply until it's back up). I use HostTracker to monitor server uptime and errors and it has alerted me many times over the course of the year to problems. Sometimes these problems are minor glitches that pass quickly; other times the server is down for hours. DewaHost has already switched server locations in an attempt to "solve" the problems. In December a client pointed me to a hacker forum in which every single one of my client's log-on names were displayed in a file taken from a DewaHost server. When I contacted support I was told " It is unfortunate that this type of insecurity exists, but it does." And in December the reliability of their service was again called into question as the server went down again. The problem this time? "We are having an issue with our up stream provider." Today on January 3, 2007 the server is again down. The problem? I don't know as they've yet to respond to my urgent support request filed an hour ago. |

After experiencing problems with another hosting company, fellow developers suggested this one. It was the best move I could have made. Solid, reliable and the customer service is first class. Some may find the pricing a little high, but I think it's worth every penny I've paid each month. They don't oversell their servers and their technical support staff are the best I've had the pleasure of dealing with. I definately recommend this company to other software developers. |
